Policy Changes

Our Thought Process
The state of emergency for Massachusetts ends on June 15th and industry regulations will largely revert to pre-COVID policies. The primary exceptions to this include public transportation, inside of schools, and healthcare facilities. Massage technically falls into personal care services with hair and nail salons, not into healthcare. However, we focus on pain management with the intention of becoming a comprehensive wellness clinic. We see many clients that actively undergo chemotherapy treatments. To drop the mask policy entirely seems irresponsible.

Another factor that we have to consider is the season. Tourists come to the Cape from many areas, some with lower vaccination rates. To prevent a spike related to increase in travel, we plan to keep masks in place through the summer. We will reassess our policies in the fall, once tourism slows for the year.

Our goal is to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. We have brainstormed and come up with a compromise that we will outline below.

Our Policies
The following policies will remain in effect until September, at which time we will reassess whether or not these need to become permanent changes to how we operate.
  • Masks: All clients must wear a mask inside our facility. Clients who wish to remove their mask during their massage must provide proof of vaccination. Many clients have volunteered that they have received a vaccine. We will take a photocopy of their vaccination card and store this in the client file. Staff will continue to wear a mask at all time while in the facility.
  • Questionnaire: All clients with proof of vaccination on file will no longer be required to complete the prescreening questionnaire before every session. This also means she will call the day before to confirm; automated confirmation via email or text will still go out. Additionally, the questionnaire now asks clients who have had COVID19 the severity of their symptoms. Any clients hospitalized with COVID19 will be required to get clearance from their primary care prior to receiving massage services.
  • Locked Doors: The back door will remain locked. Clients may still enter through the back door; simply call and we will let you in. The front door will reopen while we have someone scheduled at the front desk. However we will require anyone who wishes to enter to wear a mask while in our facility. We will provide a paper mask for those that do not have one.
  • Scheduling Out: Many clients have reserved appointments through the end of the calendar year. While we love clients that plan ahead, however please keep in mind that staff may have things come up that require us to shift appointments around. (For example, Pallas's sister is having a baby this fall. Pallas will fly out to California to help her sister after the baby's birth. We don't know exactly when so it has not gotten blocked on her schedule yet.)

We're Still Hiring!

We are actively seeking a full time licensed massage therapist and have ads posted on several different job sites as well as on our website. If you know someone looking for year round employment, please send them our way. As soon as we find a good candidate, we will happily introduce you to our new team member.

Fully Vaccinated & Other Updates

Staff Vaccinations
Pallas, Ashley & Mary have received their second vaccinations today, Tuesday, May 18th. We will take the following two days off in case of any side effects. Any messages received on these days will be returned on the Friday, May 21st.

Masks and prescreening phone calls will not change yet but, as of June 1st, we will begin to partially reopen our waiting room. This means clients may check out and reschedule with Mary at the front desk. Paperwork will still be completed in the massage rooms. The doors will still be locked to prevent walk-ins by the general public. We are watching for changes in our industry's guidelines. Any changes to our operations & policies will be sent via email & posted on our blog.

Problems & Solutions
We want to thank everyone for their feedback. Everything we hear from you and see in reviews helps us improve. We have worked to correct or upgrade some details that haven't been up to our standards.
  • Noise Carryover: Once we took out the carpets, more sound traveled between rooms, the front desk, and the hallway. This is distracting and unpleasant for many people, us included! We got draft stoppers for each massage room door to limit the sound from traveling. The draft stoppers haven't removed it completely but it has lessened the sound. We are also looking into Ruggables, machine washable area rugs, that may further muffle any sound. (Sound carryover is something we will pay close attention to when we purchase a permanent space in the future.)
  • Chilly Massage Tables: Due to pandemic restrictions, we have been unable to use the heating pads on our massage tables. They are cloth and not machine washable. We have finally found a table cover that can go over the top of our heating pads without creating a fire hazard. The covers are a medical grade material similar to the table itself, which means easily sanitized between sessions. While slightly ironic that we bring these back as weather warms up, the table pads add another layer of cushioning to our massage tables, making them more comfortable. If you're like Pallas, who is always cold, the table heating pads will be available again!
  • Water: We used to have a tea table & water bubbler with hot & cold water available for clients. Pandemic restrictions forced us to remove it. With the new Dennis ban on single-use water bottles, we have revisited our options regarding water for clients. We do not have a definite time frame but we plan to bring back a bubbler and allow clients to fill their own water bottles to drink outside. Because of the mask requirements, clients will not be able to drink inside our facility.
  • Limited Memberships: Mary will be reaching out to each of our paused members to see who plans to return. We will hold the membership spot for paused members until Sept 2021. After that date, we will open up those spots on our member list to others. No one will lose any pre-paid services and all past members are welcome to sign up again if space allows. We will increase the maximum allowed members once we hire another massage therapist. Thank you for understanding. We don't want to promise more than we can currently provide.
  • More Secure Website: We updated our firewall & SSL, providing more security to website transactions. We maintain PCI compliance with MindBody, our online booking software & credit card processor.

Tis the Season...

Please make note of the following seasonal concerns we run into every year. We appreciate you helping us ensure you receive the best experience possible!
  • Sunburns & Beach: If you get a sunburn, we recommend rescheduling. We will not work directly on a fresh sunburn; it will hurt you and we don't want to hurt you. We also recommend leaving enough time before your massage to shower off any sand so that you can fully enjoy your massage service and not turn it into an unplanned exfoliation treatment.
  • Spray Tans: Please schedule your massage BEFORE you freshen up your spray tan. Massage is friction, which will remove outer skin cells, and make your tan look patchy. We know you don't want that.
  • Poison Ivy: If you have poison ivy, we recommend rescheduling. Ashley is highly allergic. Receiving a massage could also spread poison ivy to other areas on your body and/or to us. In this instance, sharing is not caring.
  • Traffic/Road Construction: Please plan ahead so that you can arrive on time and receive your entire service. If you get stuck in traffic or road construction and will arrive late, please let us know. We recommend reviewing our cancellation/late policies here.

In Other News

Pallas has been appointed to the Massage Therapy Licensing Board for Massachusetts!  She got officially sworn in on May 10th. This is a three-year volunteer appointment. She hopes to help shape the future of the massage industry in a positive way.
