Making Time for Summer Self-Care: A Busy Parent’s Guide

As a parent, summer can feel like a juggling act. Kids are home from school, family vacations are on the horizon, and the list of things to do seems never-ending. While taking care of everyone else is a top priority, summer self-care is just as important—especially when you’re feeling stretched thin.

Between managing schedules, work, and family obligations, it’s easy to put your own well-being last. But neglecting yourself only leads to burnout and exhaustion. So, how do you make time for self-care as a busy parent? It doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment, and it’s not selfish to take care of yourself. In fact, it benefits everyone in the family when you feel your best.

1. Schedule “Me Time” with Massage
Massage is a perfect way to recharge when you’re feeling stressed or physically drained. Whether it’s a 60-minute relaxation massage or a more targeted therapeutic session to work out muscle tension, regular massages can help reduce stress and ease physical discomfort. Massage therapy also helps to release those much-needed endorphins, which can improve your mood and energy levels.

2. Make Relaxation a Priority
If you can’t manage an hour-long massage, try to fit in some shorter, simple relaxation techniques. Breathing exercises, stretching, and even a brief aromatherapy session can help you calm down and reset. If you’re dealing with stress and anxiety, talk to your massage therapist about incorporating aromatherapy into your sessions, as certain essential oils like lavender can be extremely calming.

3. Take Advantage of Summer’s Natural Energy
While you may be focused on the kids’ schedules, don’t forget to take advantage of the longer days and warm weather to get outside and enjoy a bit of fresh air. Whether it’s a walk after dinner or stretching in the yard, being active helps release tension and improves your mood, making it easier to handle the chaos that comes with parenting.

4. Don’t Feel Guilty About Prioritizing Your Health
Taking time for self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential for your well-being. You can’t pour from an empty cup. The more you care for yourself, the more energy and patience you’ll have for your family. Think of it as an investment in your physical and emotional health, which directly benefits those around you.

By making self-care a part of your regular routine, you’ll feel more energized and ready to handle whatever the summer throws your way.
