Plantar Fasciitis Massage & Foot Pain Relief

Heel pain and foot tightness can make everyday activities harder and may affect:
  • walking
  • standing for long periods
  • exercise
  • work
  • sleep
  • balance and mobility
Many people with plantar fasciitis also notice tightness in the:
  • feet
  • calves
  • Achilles tendon
  • ankles
  • hamstrings
  • hips
At Oasis Massage, we use targeted massage and mobility techniques to help reduce muscle tension and movement restrictions that may contribute to foot and heel discomfort.

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves irritation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of connective tissue that supports the arch of the foot.

Symptoms may include:
  • heel pain, especially first thing in the morning
  • sharp or aching pain at the bottom of the foot
  • foot tightness or stiffness
  • pain after standing or walking for long periods
  • discomfort after exercise or activity

Many clients describe a sharp, stabbing feeling in the heel when taking their first steps out of bed.

Common Causes and Contributing Factors
Plantar fasciitis is often linked with:
  • calf tightness
  • foot and ankle stiffness
  • overuse or repetitive strain
  • prolonged standing
  • poor footwear support
  • changes in activity level
  • running or sports
  • postural imbalance
  • limited ankle mobility

Tightness higher up in the body, especially through the calves, hamstrings, hips, and low back, may also affect walking mechanics and contribute to strain on the feet over time.

The Mobility and Posture Connection
Foot pain is not always just about the foot.

When the calves, ankles, hips, or hamstrings become restricted, walking patterns can change. Over time, this may place extra stress on the plantar fascia and supporting muscles. Poor movement patterns, stiffness, and muscle compensation can gradually increase strain throughout the lower body.

The good news is that improving mobility, flexibility, and muscle tension patterns may help reduce strain and improve comfort over time.

How Massage May Help Plantar Fasciitis
Massage therapy may help:
  • reduce calf and foot tension
  • improve ankle mobility
  • decrease muscle tightness
  • improve circulation
  • reduce stress on surrounding muscles
  • improve flexibility and movement patterns
  • support relaxation and recovery

Treatment may include work on the:
  • feet
  • calves
  • Achilles tendon
  • ankles
  • shins
  • hamstrings
  • hips
  • lower legs

Pressure and techniques are always adjusted to your comfort level.

Massage therapy does not cure plantar fasciitis, but many clients find it helpful as part of a broader recovery plan focused on mobility, tension reduction, and body mechanics.

What Makes Oasis Massage Different
Our therapists look at the bigger picture, not just the painful area.  We assess:
  • lower body tension patterns
  • posture and movement restrictions
  • calf and ankle tightness
  • mobility limitations
  • compensation patterns

This helps us create a more personalized treatment approach based on what may be contributing to your discomfort.

In chronic or recurring cases, a postural analysis may help identify how foot mechanics, calf tension, and hip or pelvic alignment may be contributing to strain through the lower body. (Learn more about Postural Analysis.)

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Can massage fix plantar fasciitis?
Massage does not cure plantar fasciitis. However, many clients experience less tension, improved mobility, and greater comfort with regular treatment.

  • Will you work directly on my feet?
Yes, if comfortable for you. Treatment may include the feet, calves, and surrounding muscles that influence walking and movement patterns.

  • Does treatment hurt?
Some tight areas may feel tender, especially in the calves or feet, but pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level.

  • How often should I come in?
Clients with active pain often benefit from weekly or biweekly sessions at first, depending on symptom severity and activity level.

What to Book
Book a free 15-minute New Client Intake & Consultation and pair it with one of the following services based on your symptoms, severity, and mobility patterns:
  • 30-minute Target Area Massage (feet, calves)
  • 60-minute Target Area Massage (lower leg, calf, foot complex)
  • Assisted Stretching (Lower Body focus)

For most clients with mild to moderate heel pain or plantar fascia tightness, the 30-minute Target Area Massage is a good starting point. This session focuses on the feet and calves to address common areas of tension contributing to plantar fasciitis symptoms.

If symptoms include chronic tightness, recurring flare-ups, or involvement of the calves, ankles, and lower legs, the 60-minute Target Area Massage allows more time to address the full lower kinetic chain, including calves, shins, ankles, and feet.

If stiffness, restricted movement, or recurring tension patterns are present through the lower body, Lower Body Assisted Stretching may also be recommended to support flexibility and reduce strain through the calves, hamstrings, and plantar fascia.

We do not want to waste your time or your money. Your therapist will help determine the most appropriate approach during your consultation based on your symptoms, mobility, and comfort level.

Enhancements (used when appropriate, no additional charge)
  • Hot stones used when appropriate for calf and foot muscle relaxation and improved circulation
  • Essential oils used when appropriate for calming, grounding, and sensory support during treatment
  • Kinesiotaping used when appropriate for arch support and lower leg stabilization between sessions
